Counselling research

A wide range of professionals (often) perform counselling as part of their role: psychologists, counsellors, therapists, doctors, nurses, social workers, and so on. Some of those preofessionals practice in a regulated environment and some do not, and they have a wide range of qualifying courses behind them. The counselling industry in Australia is in the process of professionalising and credentialing, creating a niche and need for high quality research.

Ethical standards

One of Mark's PhD students - Paul Kremer - is exploring ethical standards for professionals who practice counselling, with a particular focus on the impact of previous personal trauma in the counsellor's life. To read more and possibly participate if you perform a counselling role visit Paul's page.

Counselling curriculum

Recognising that psychologists are not the only professionals to devote their careers to counselling clients, Mark developed a unique, new innovative course - Bachelor of Counselling - to train and qualify counsellors. As part of this process he has a research project examining the differences and similarities in counselling-related curricula used for the various professions that practice counselling.

Out of body experiences

One of Mark's PhD students - Alex de Foe - is undertaking a project related to the experience of out of body experiences. The project has relevance to counselling, as that is one of Alex's interests.
